LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — The county of Lake, in partnership with the cities of Clearlake and Lakeport, is preparing to continue the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary with two spectacular drone shows later this summer.
Shows will be held in Lakeport and Clearlake, to allow as many Lake County residents as possible to join the celebration.
The Lakeport drone show will take place on Aug. 7 at Xabatin “Big Water” Community Park.
The Clearlake drone show will follow on August 8 at Austin Park. Both shows will begin at dusk, once the sky is dark enough for the drones to be clearly visible.
Members of the Lake County Board of Supervisors, Chair Brad Rasmussen and Supervisor Bruno Sabatier, have worked with city and community partners to secure funding and coordinate the events.
Calpine, a business unit of Constellation Energy, has signed on as major sponsor, contributing $20,000.
“These events will offer a unique and exciting way for people from across Lake County to come together and celebrate this important moment in our nation’s history,” said Rasmussen. “We are grateful to Calpine and the many community partners who are helping make these celebrations possible, and we look forward to welcoming residents and visitors for two memorable evenings.”
“Lake County has been home to The Geysers for generations, so we are proud to support an event that brings neighbors, families and friends together to celebrate in a safe, innovative way while fostering the connections that make our communities strong,” said Aimee Blaine, senior vice president of Calpine’s geothermal region.
Lake County’s summer drone shows expand on a popular suite of celebrations that have occurred around the lake, including the Cities of Clearlake and Lakeport.
“The city of Clearlake came together powerfully to celebrate America’s 250th this Independence Day, with the largest fireworks display in our city’s history, and activities spanning July 2 to 5,” said City Manager Alan Flora.
“Lakeport’s celebration was a wonderful reminder of what makes our community so special,” said City Manager Kevin Ingram. “From our longstanding tradition of lining Main Street with American flags to a vibrant street fair, an outstanding fireworks display, and the countless volunteers, organizations, and public safety personnel who made it all possible, the weekend reflected the pride and spirit of our community. We are excited to continue celebrating America’s 250th anniversary and to once again bring our Lake County community together in celebration of this historic occasion.”
